Re: 1984: Rank Inisignias of Oceania

Fun project, Marc. TBH I don't recall much about the armed forces in 1984 . However, I did see Oceania as a somewhat anglocentric state, even tho' it included what's now the United States. This comes both from its capital's (apparently) being London, from Orwell's natural focus on England, and that...

Tho' what would the E-1 to E-4 (OR1-OR4) ranks be called? In the Air Force they're Airman Basic through Senior Airman. In the Space Corps would they be Spaceman? I don't think so. Astronier ? Re: Modernized Roman ranks - officers corps: speculation

I think you might need to decided whether you are basically doing an integral roman empire with modern guns or a roman empire that has evolved over the past 2 millenias. If the former, getting equivalency will be a bit hard. Centurions rose from the troops to have responsabilities and an autonomy o...

Re: Modernized Roman ranks - officers corps: speculation

I think the answer is both. You'd likely also have Greek and other influenes as well. Roman existed, in one form or another, for nearly a thousand years, IIRC. If it were to exist today, I believe that would add an additional thousand years to draw on. IIRC, in antiquity, Centurions were also direct...
