hints

Do you want exquisite or simple insignia? In any case, you have to have a clear system: rank grades signified by various insignia. Don't try the american system, as it's too complex insignia-wise. The finnish system uses a clear system of insignia: small rosettes and large rosettes for offs and seni...

Do you remember the name of the show?

Kinda looks like an episode of the Outer Limits.
They got plenty of mish-mashed sci-fi stories.

You should put all of these insignia in a .pdf or a book or smtn. It would be easier to browse through them, and it would serve as educational material. BTW, I'm trying to come up with a list of specializations (for a fi...

The Finnish army used stars in their rank insignia in 1918-1919. m/22 onwards we've used heraldic roses for officers and lions for generals. Ever since m/36, our insignia haven't changed much: One rather interesting note abo...

I doubt the resistance would devote too much for uniforms other than BDUs, as they are fighting a power that basically controls most of the earth's material resources. The stuff the Resistance uses is merely leftovers. The generals and admirals in Resistance HQ wore their own national rank insignia....

I think the kiregsmarine's badge would feature either a luftwaffe eagle clutching an anchor or an eagle rising/flying above a ship or some waves.

I did a set of insignia a while back as a request. I noticed that some of the officers had a small plate on their undertunic collar, so it got me thinking. The uniforms had no shoulderstraps (which would've been covered by peripheral paraphernalia), no sleevestripes and no other such obvious places....

For some reason I doubt Chav' will be using military nomenclature with the possible Guard. Of course it will follow a military pattern, but since we are, for the time being, unsure about the nomenclature of the ranks, we should stick to NATO codes on the issue. On the issue, what nomenclature do you...

Since officers carry the greater burden of command in their units, the chain of command should be as simple as possible: an officer commanding a unit and someone to assist. This has been followed in most modern militaries: platoon is commanded by a lieutenant, assisted by a senior NCO; company is he...

Not too much of a stretch, but I think they'd think of new insignia, while retaining the pattern.

I think it goes smtn like this: Corporal commands sections/fireteams of troopers, (four to six troops) Sergeants command squads made of sections/fireteams (two or three sections) Junior Ltn commands a platoon made of squads (four or five squads) Senior Ltn commands a company (two or three platoons),...

I know you're trying to eschew any national styles or heraldry for these insignia, but those geometric shapes make the insignia look a lot like early soviet rank insignia. Guess it's all about the same...

A difficulty would of course be the fact that certain branch specialties (e.g. mechanised infantry/cavalry) would be largely be based on different militaries' doctrine.
