Re: New unified US ranks

In my opinion I would like it this way. Privates no insignia, then lance corporal one chevron, corporal two chevrons, sergeant three chevrons, staff sergeant three chevrons one arc, senior sergeant three chevrons two arcs, master sergeant three chevrons three arcs. master sgt.would be e-9,senior sgt.woul...

Re: Modern Confederate Rank and Uniforms

I like your presentation especially having the General officer ranks given specific insignia. My only comment is with the other ranks insignia. It is my opinion that only NCO's should wear chevrons. If you want to give private soldiers sort of step insignia thats fine. How about using the U.S. Navy'...

Maybe this

How about Marine Officers having Naval rank titles.Ensign and Sublieutenant platoon leaders. Lieutenant would be Company 2ic, Lieutenant Commander Company CO,Commander Battalion CO, Captain Brigade CO. Generals would stay Generals. NCO's in the Marines would use Army rank titles Cpl's Sgt's Sgt's Ma...

great work

Yes, I think this is better. Do you think this is an improvement or do you think it is too limiting. I would like to make a couple points. number one, if the straight stripes on the shoulder or sleeve indicate commissioned officers than chevrons should be the symbol for the non commissioned officer....

my Reply

I just want to add my thoughts on the NCO grades. I kind of like the Japanese or German(wwII ) system where they have a number of grades for the rank and file before you get to the NCO's. And not so many high level Sergeants Major of this or that. The British have a good system, also with two grades...

I Can't Resist

Thanks! I really like your ideas. I think naval style insignia are probably well known around the world. Look at Canadian insignia. The United Nations could use these insignia if they ever established a dedicated UN peacekeeping force My only criticism, and please it's only my opinion, I'm not wild ...

Half measures

Thats a great link. A question does occur though, why change the officer insignia and not change the other ranks insignia? If we're going to change one why not the other? I like the idea of using the old specialist insignia as the insignia for warrant class two and also for class one with some sort ...

Change U.S. Army Rank Insignia

Now this will never happen there is too much history and tradition with the present insignia. I'm not a good artist and my computer can't do it for me so I'll have to write them out. The U.S. Army has recently decided to return to blue as the service uniform colour. This is a return to the frontier ...

The British System in other Countries

The British Army rank system is used by many countries around the world. Some of these countries, according to this site, only use one grade of Warrant officer. Could someone inform me as to how these various countries utilize the single Warrant grade? Do they use it as Company Sergeant Major or Reg...

Chain of Command

In a military organisation it is essential to have a chain of command. It is most important to maintain it in the combat arms rather than service, administration or support. My question is then, Is it better to keep the chain as short as possible by having a limited number of ranks or to have a larg...

Answer to poll

In my opinion your position in the hierarchy of the organisation should require a commensurate level of knowledge, experience and ability. I guess that means the insignia one is priveleged to wear and the authority it commands should be backed up by ability not just time in any service. I see nothin...

British Commonwealth

All of the Commonwealth Nations use the British other ranks system (except Canada) Do any of them modify or alter their use of this system by their ground forces? I mean do they fill all grades or do they not fill certain grades? I believe I read somewhere that Australia is phaseing out the grade of...
