Why Blue?

Hello Guest, Yes, of course the old Militia uniforms were grey. If you go to many countries some are brown, white, khaki, green.........there are many colours. (see the unifrms on my website: http://adintpolcol.tripod.com) But the question was asking about 'blue', it being the most common colour for...

POlice Uniforms - Why blue?

Hi Chuck, You are right about the myths and legends that seem to be repeated, but the research I have carried out regarding the first UK police force was, unlike the many people who have called themselves police historians in the past, based on actual documents in archives here in Glasgow. You see, ...

Hi James, Yes, I saw that the BTP have adopted the black with diced band pullovers, which I am informed is the European standard for Police. This is particularly pleasing to us ex-Glasgow Police, as the diced cap band was first used in Glasgow in 1932. See www.policemuseum.org.uk/SILLTARTAN.html Reg...

Why Blue?

Hi Chuck, Thanks for the URL concerning the question ‘Why Blue’. Whilst the article was, in the main, concerned with the use of the blue uniform colour in the USA, the author did touch on its use by the British Police. First of all, the author appears to have been taken in by the myth that the Metro...

Mexican Police Project

Hi Chuck, I saw the BBC TV documentary on this project and it was a real 'eye-opener'. The Mexico City police officers get around 250 pesos per week and are expected to buy their own uniforms (around 600 pesos). The cops are on 'the bread line' and right through the TV programme freely admitted taki...

Correct Me If I Am Wrong?

Hi Pavel,

I now realise that this is not his collection, but links to websites where police patches are displayed............still it is excessive, but I am holding off and respect your patience.

Correct Me If I Am Wrong?

Hi Pavel, I may have missed the point of the 'Badges, Patches and Other Insignia' Section, but was it your intention that Users would post their entire collection of US Police patches on it? I thought that it was for the discussion or questions relating to badges, patches etc., or the illustration o...

Police Ranks in book

Hi Chris, If you go to my website http://adintpolcol.tripod.com you will see the ranks. They are not named there, but I can scan the page of the book for you. Unfortunately, at the moment I am almost at my door to leave for a two week trip to Spain. I'll do this when I get back if that's OK....... :...

Rank Insignia Included in book

Hello Oliver, Whilst I agree that the book 'Police of the World' is not for the rank insignia 'purist', it does give a lot of useful information on Police ranks and I could not agree that its value is 'very limited'. There are not many books on Police rank insignia.......so we have to appreciate wha...

Police Ranks included in Book

Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum, but I've been including ranks in my worldwide Police Badge collection for many years (see http://adintpolcol.tripod.com). Just thought you would like to know that written rank details (unfortunately no rank illustrations) for a lot of unusual forces are included in t...
