I just finish to watch Starship Troopers 2, and I got very disappointed regarding the ranks. While the uniform and NCO insignia (at least shown once) remained the same, the officers’ insignia suddenly changed to the US pattern, just like in the American version cartoon.
Ok, I guess many bored with me on this subject, but I am back. First I guess I jumped to conclusion too fast: No, ranks not like US, however some elements are. I just got a rule book (and I paid for it $45). Secondary interesting assumption -- no crewmen or other NCO in a fleet! After reading some ranks I have even more questions (Note, though that ranks are Roughnecks/ST2, not primary movie!). So, here it goes:
E.-1 Recruit, E.-2 Private, E.-3 Corporal, E.-4 Sergeant, and E.-5 Sergeant -Major. O.-1 Lieutenant, O.-2 Captain O.-3 Major O.-4 Lieutenant Colonel O.-5 Colonel O.-6 General O.-7 Sky Marshal O.-8 Sky Marshal in Chief.
Now, question, is rank Sky Marshal fisable for infantry?
I don’t know if it’s specifically mentioned in Heinlein’s novel, but in the related novel Space Cadet the Patrol has no uncommissioned ranks. Heinlein, an old Navy man, may have felt there was a big difference between solders, who need uncommissioned ranks, and the “technical” specialists needed on a warring spaceship.
(It’s important to point out that it’s dangerous to extract from his novels Heinlein’s specific views on military organization. Especially between Starship Troopers and Space Cadet he was clearly trying out different ideas of organization.)

in starship troopers the book the rank are as follows:
All branches:Sky Marshal or Sky Marshal-in-Chief(have to have commanded a navy ship and army MI unit)
Army,Mobile Infantry:
Fleet General
General
Mediun-Tall General (slang most likely)
Short General (slang most likely)
Colonel
Lieutentant Colonel
Major
Captain
1st Lieutenant
2nd Lieutenant
3rd Lieutenant (temporary for officer canidates)
NCO:
Fleet Sergeant
Ship's Sergeant
(it is suggested there is a sergeant rank here but never mentioned)
Sergeant
Corporal
Lance Corporal
Private First Class
Trained Private
Recruit Private
The shoulder insignia for Sky Marshal consisted of a large stylized eagle. It is difficult to identify details from the films. The use of an eagle device to represent the most senior commander of a military force on Earth has many precedents. I hope someone will have an image that can be posted.
Intersting, there to point out two things: 1. Ranks above -- are service version, the full dress is entirly different. 2. Also, the Roughnecks' version entirly different, and they go by sort of US style rather German, at least majority. They (Roughnecks in the games) suppousedly treat the grey troops (from the movie) as a light infantry, while themselves as striking mobile assault.
