Need help with generic spacebased Armed Merchant Marines!

Hi, need the rank table for generic Armed Merchant Spacy (Marine). And I am looking for basic ranks (not the military!), which could be used from medical to machinist departments!

Maybe this going to help: Sub-story: System X depends on heavy merchant shipping, however, pirates and privateers started to lute the roads. Therefore, with sending the military (since the sector is not that strategic), additionally, the government created an Armed Merchant Spacy Bureau!

Thanx, Zibster smilies-03!

Dah, if this would be normal Police!

I was thinking so far:

M.E.-1: Hand
M.E.-2: Able Hand
M.E.-3: Specialist
M.E.-4: Passed Specialist
M.E.-5: Skilled Specialist
M.E.-6: Boatswain
M.E.-7: Certified Boatswain

M.O.-1: Mate Apprentice
M.O.-2: Passed Mate
M.O.-3: Third Mate
M.O.-4: Second Mate
M.O.-5: First Mate
M.O.-6: Skipper (Captain)

M.D.-1: Assistant Deputy Fleet Director
M.D.-2: Deputy Fleet Director
M.D.-3: Deputy Fleet Director
M.D.-4: Fleet Director
M.D.-5: Director-General an umbrella rank for all departments of Armed Merchant Spacy

I donno, that's what I have in mind, however, the "ground forces" would be looking somwhat like regular police or so.This is a hybride force with right to arrest, seize, and even establish courantine zones, as well to wage full plaged overt operations against pirate hideouts (if anybody seen Exo-Squad, this is sort of more deluted version of Exo Fleet before Second Neosapian War)!

That's basically I had in mind, however, two things -- they armed, and I like one tytle fits everything. For instance, instead let's say, Chief Engineer, I'd rather say -- Master of Engineering or Administration, Master of Supercargo and so on. Only department insignia, and maybe piping on uniform would signify difference.

Still, thanx, Zibster smilies-02 !

Any ideas welcomed, Zibster smilies-02 !

The insignia is great, but I have a few suggestions. I currently attend a Maritime Academy, specifically designed for the training of future Merchant Marine officers. We are split into sections when aboard ship and for watch bills. We have a section leader, a variable number of squad leaders, and those holding on specific rank.

Change Shipmate Apprentice to Deck/Engineering Cadet, and Passed Mate to Deck/Engineering Officer. First Mate doesn't exist in the Merchant Marine world, but I guess it would do fine here, considering it is fictional. Chief Mate/Engineer is what we use for certification and so on, but whatever works for you is fine.

Also, because Passed and Certified sound relatively similar, I would recommend changing them.

Specialist - (Unqualified) Specialist
Passed Specialist - Qualified Specialist
Cert. Specialist - Leading Specialist
Boatswain - Department/Section Head

A Boatswain is typically an officer, and normally used by the enlisted side for purely ceremonial purposes, unless that very senior enlisted person is qualified.

But the illustrations can't be beat.
