Republic insignia

Hello, everyone at IEUI forums!
I've been browsing this site for some years now, and partly based my own rank insignia on the material that's here. I've tried to enter the forums a few times, but the system doesn't accept hotmail...
But, now I'm here and ready to participate!

I run a gallery at deviantArt mostly based on sci-fi (own universe) uniforms, insignia and weapons.

So I have a few links to my galleries, so you can browse through them freely. This is all I have time for a few days and it's already 2AM at the moment, so I'll just dump here the links and go to sleep.

Bear in mind, that I've launched a renovation project with the aim of convertng all my uniform and insignia images to vector graphics with added detail. This might take a long while.

I use(d) Photoshop Elements for my gallery. Now I'm collecting raw materials in vector graphics, so I could remake all of it. That should add consistency and the level of detail considerably. However, the exports will be anti-aliased.

Hi, Tounushi , really nice job. I have not seen anything good from Finland since the Star Wreck the Pirkininig smilies-33 ! I might be a first critic though, since I've been there done that. However, I do the images by hand and color them. My question though, if this Star Wars universe? And if so, than whole ideas are not feasible. This due to a different philosophy -- a Galaxy far, far away! I bet u did not know, that uniforms both, Empire and Rebells were designed by professional military artist-costume designer John Mollo. But I digress, u c, did u ever wonder why the ranks and insignias looks weird, those plates for the Empire and Alliance? That was on purpose, to distance the real world and previous science-fiction works, to make ranks sort of "alien." And u, Tounushi making those nice insignias, uniforms and so on. As far as I know, the Star Wars naval uniforms were(even from the Sith Wars, 5000 years ago, or new Galactic Republic of Corella) simply cut, sometimes flashy in color, but never shoulder bars, or any similar insignias we have right now. On the other hand if these were Starship Troopers, Wing Commander, or even Battletech -- Lyran Common wealth, the insignias and uniforms would most appropriate.
Thank u for cool and nice job, and best wishes, Ziba

Well, Z-sama, the original concept I had was basically an amalgamation of all the sci-fi I know of (minus star trek).
The basic premise is, that the "starting point" was the early 21st century earth in the star trek continuity. An advanced alien race from another galaxy was looking for a reliable and adaptable servant race, and they found earth. Even though they needed slaves, they detested destroying cultures or civilization in the process, so the basically "photocopied" the entire solar system and everything in it. They "snapped" back to their original launch destination and time (their FTL covered the intergalactic distance in 50000 years), and they reproduced the solar system at an appropriate location. The Race enslaved/indentured the human race for centuries before a rebellion ended them. After the defeat of the Race, humanity allied itself with several other races to form the Republic.
As humans yearned to retain their identity in the grand scheme of things, fashion (military, at least) has remained at the current (and presented) level.
The Empire, which broke off from the Republic at a later time, eschewed itself from the ancient, "decadent" styles and traditions in order to establish its own identity.
