Police Ranks included in Book

Hi Folks,
I'm new to this forum, but I've been including ranks in my worldwide Police Badge collection for many years (see http://adintpolcol.tripod.com).
Just thought you would like to know that written rank details (unfortunately no rank illustrations) for a lot of unusual forces are included in the book:
'Police of the World' by Roy Ingleton, published in 1979,
ISBN 0 7110 0911 2
Hope this helps.
Regards
Alastair
My collection of over 6000 items of police insignia are from every country in the World.
This includes 1300 items of Police rank insignia.

Hi Everybody !!

....I think I've already spoken of that, but there is also another book : "Police Uniforms of the World", by Blakeslee, pub. around 1934-35, which is more or less of the same kind as Ingleton' s one. It describes the rank insignia but without illustrating them. I know also "The World's Police", a volume from the 60's. But it is of very limited value, if I well remember. These three books are the only general works about World Police uniforms, as far as I know.

Rank Insignia Included in book

Hello Oliver,
Whilst I agree that the book 'Police of the World' is not for the rank insignia 'purist', it does give a lot of useful information on Police ranks and I could not agree that its value is 'very limited'.
There are not many books on Police rank insignia.......so we have to appreciate what little we have. I am sure it is the lack of information on Police and other services rank systems that makes the Rank Insignia Info. website so important and popular with rank system enthusiasts.
One example is that a few years ago I received a full set of rank epaulettes of the Sudanese Police...without any identification details. From the written details in the book 'Police of the World' I was able to label each of them exactly.........I do note that the Sudanese Police ranks are not yet in the Rank Insignia Info. website yet.......from this book we could have had at least the titles of the ranks.
Sometimes we do not get all the information 'handed on a plate' and we have to gain the information in segments and put them together.......I would say that 'Police of the World' can provide some of the segments of information and for that it has much more than 'limited' value.
Every little piece of information helps. :)
Regards
Alastair

Does anybody here own the book or know if their local library has it? I cant find it in stock anywhere, Amazon says its out of print. Alastair, do you have a scanner? If so could you try and scan the Sudanese Police rank insignia and post it?

Police Ranks in book

Hi Chris,
If you go to my website http://adintpolcol.tripod.com you will see the ranks. They are not named there, but I can scan the page of the book for you.
Unfortunately, at the moment I am almost at my door to leave for a two week trip to Spain.
I'll do this when I get back if that's OK....... :D
Regards
Alastair

Dear Chris ( and to Whom it may concern...),

You can easily buy this book on www.abebooks.com for a few bucks...It is scarce that a more-than-twenty-years-old book is available at your local library. :( :( . However, you can find it at the Mid-Manhattan Library, 5th. floor, reference section, under number 363.209 I . Maybe it is also possible to use an interloaning procedure through your local library ?

:? Well, it is in the "reference section", usually, this kind of book doesn't leave its room...
