Greenland military

If Greenland has an army, what would its rank insignia look like?

Re: Greenland military

Hi general_tiu!

I imagine they would base much of it on Denmark's military and naval forces,(if they add a navy or coast guard), however a complete break with the mother country's traditions would not seem out of place either.

Hi Helios88!

I'm not sure of indigenous traditions they may have, however the ethnic groups there are listed as Inuit (88%), Danish and other (12%), and official languages listed as Greenlandic (East Inuit), and Danish.

Re: Greenland military

We're all guessing about a country we don't know, so I'll jump in ...

- officers' and other ranks would be probably be very similar to the Danish army and police - heavy use of stars for officer
- but instead of the Danish crown, the Greenlandic polar bear!
- I couldn't find out Greenland's national colours, tho' that's not critical
- my guess is that the colours would tend toward red-and-white (like the flag) or blue and silver (like the arms)

Re: Greenland military

I believe that the 2009 agreement that gave Greenland increased autonomy was structured so that Greenland would eventually assume control of policing, but that defense would remain a Danish responsibility. The most recent source I have found indicates that policing is still by the Danish National Police Service, with Greenland being one of its 12 districts, with the Chief Constable being based in Nuuk.

Re: Greenland military

a ceremonial uniform based around the traditional male greenland costume (seen worn here with medal by the danish prince-consort) could work. It reminds me of the use of a hoodie by the canadian rangers:

rank could be indicated on a strip on the right side. They could either be based on the danish army (for obvious reason) or the police has they are the uniform service they are more likely to see on a regular basis.
