Finnish Ranks are Confusing

Why are there two 2nd lieutenants, two 1st lieutenants and two captains? They have the same name, but a different insignia.

and the ranks are CWO, 2nd lt, 1st lt and captain.

Are these technical specialist ranks, like the Wehrmacht's Sonderfurer(sp?)?

They are described as warrant officers ranks. I think they are specialist, they go to special schools.

I've been looking at those Finnish warrant officer ranks, and I think that I may have a plausible explanation of their status.

There are two programmes (somewhat related to what they have in all branches of the Finnish armed forces) in the U.S.Navy, namely the Warrant Officer and Limited Duty Officer programmes.

Both programmes are for specialist positions, and both are open to senior enlisted personnel of needed specialist ratings. The more the experience,etc., the higher the rank attained at time of entry.

I think the Limited Duty Officer programme is the right thing to take a look into for an explanation of this somewhat puzzling matter. See ya'!!

I think the answer is, if I understood the topic right, that normal cadre officers wear a heraldic rose (or roses) on his collar patch. So this would mean that a Captain has three roses. Rank insignia called "Captain", having three small six-pointed stars with a sword and a wheel is actually not a Captain, but a Military Official, technical branch, in the equivalent salary level of a Captain. So this is an error on the graphic colour plates.

In Finnish, we do not call them "Captains" etc. but "Sotilasvirkamies", literally Military Civil Servant or Military Official. I peekd how this is decribed in the official web-site of Finnish Defence Forces, and noticed the the translations are somehow blurry.

Hello!
I checked this Finnish military official rank insignia -thing and noticed that the Finnish Defence Forces have an error on the drawings. The the grip and the guard of the sword should point towards the rank/level stars. It seems that noone bothered to peek at the dress regulations while making the drawings. Here in Rank insignia the color plates were correct!
