More New Stuff

Hey, all.

Two new sets of insignia:

Solovia: a fictional Russo/Slavic nation (I don't have a Cyrillic character set, so it's in English)
http://www.his.com/~calderon/Solovia/

Uhuru: a fictional African/Caribbean nation (French-speaking)
http://www.his.com/~calderon/Uhuru/

As always -- Enjoy!

My favorite is still the Arabic nation, Mashriq Jadid. I like the way the stars came out. 8)

Some of the fictive rankinsignia seems be more interesting than the real one; go on.

DML,

Thanks for the compliment. I am currently working on insignia for a nation that is based on a conglomeration of the nations of North America: Canada, US, and Mexico. We call it "Concordia."

Take care,

Hello all,

I really enjoy seeing people's addaptations and inventions of rank insignia. I am always courious as to why a country chooses it's symbols of authority. It is a form of art to me. So I am just as curious to your ranks as well. My question is what is the purpose of the imaginary States that inspire the insignia?
I my self like to create fictional rank structures. I have some I'd like to present here but, I don't know how to upload them. I could I guess email them. I've made the video game HALO (United Nations Space Command Navy and Marines). And Napoleonic Era Austrian empire and French Grande Army.

Are you thinking of finding something which could look familiar to all 3 or one which is completely different ?

Incidently, I went though your collection. Some are quite interesting just a couple of questions:

- how did the irish-german soldiers came about ? Irishmen in german service ?

- are they all separate projects or are some part of a joint universe ?

by the way, the extraterrestrial legion in french should be "la légion des extraterrestres" if its made of aliens or "la légion extraterrestre" if you meant that it operate oustside earth like the foreign legion operate outside of its motherland. Also, special legion would be written "légion extraterrestre spéciale"

I guess these are questions rather directed to me than Erskine, since he was kind enough to loan a webspace in order to post some of my works. Another thing, I am an independent operator and I have no clue regarding the project calls "Concordia." Now about my projects, one day I was reading some RPG’s and novels and got interested (rather angry about) what if I set my universe. This was at time B5 was on TV, so kind I “borrowed” some aspects, another aspect was a game from DP9 called “Jovian Chronicles.” I fascinated with history of Mars there where Mars was divided in type of two cold war countries — one was Martian Federation, mostly German settlers, the other was Free Martian Republic, sorts of US old West or Texas. I adopted the idea of German Martian stated, furthermore, watching B5, in the show often mentioning the “Martian Rebellion,” so that’s how Bundesrepublik der Mars came about. In my universe, humankind settled beyond Solar system starting since 2110, the “current” story is about 2290. In 2270's many outer and some core colonies rebel, and created a bunch of civil wars, and because the pressure of the most powerful faction New Gean Confederacy, the Allied United Nations had to recognize the Martian state ( The Germans of New Weimar, that was the collective name of sentiments and the Isles of Mars ( sorry spelling, someone will correct me) (The group of Irish minority that seceded from AUN New London Territories who sick and tired to pay high taxes and be ignored to Earth Government and asked the “asylum”at new Martian state), where new relationship established of Gall-Sol Frontiers Compact ( a nation that created by merging a interstellar corporation with Chinese settlers from Taiwan origin, a small nation), New Gean Confederacy (( more look like the C.S.A., but in terms of politics having big US/Commonwealth origins) by establishing the huge Scotts minorities (New Edinburgh territories), Austro-Hungarian minorities, The Budapest Territories, the German Space Democratic Republic (from former G.D.R.), New Russia, New Hongkong ( some parts seceded to Compact), New Star Caledonia (powerful French conclave), and various border districts), the Allied United Nations (the oldest and original power, created out of inability of old United Nation to decide anything, at first many countries were denied the membership, later became the Earth official government with two seats of power Geneva on Earth and Armstrong City on the Moon, the federation of territories called “consortiums” some represent old states, some entire planets or systems), Free Frontier Worlds Republic (is a new buffer state that created between AUN and NGC, look like American West/Frontier style culture), and faunally aside due to the time/dimension paradox the Great Maorian Empire of Stars (multi-cultural/alien political entity created by humans, who set to settle some worlds during emigration wave of 2190's, but got like 1500 years into the past and due to so-called “Great Dimension Barrier” contact Earth up until 2280's).
I hope explained some instances to my illustrations, and I need to address some questions, first La Legion was a creation of AUN president during the Secession Wars because of Home Defense Act of 2260, as a special strike force to do dirty work for Allied Nations, so I guess correct name should be “la légion extraterrestre,” all humans. The others like Russ Oil, EBSIS, Quebec, Russian Allied Volunteer Navy – WWII, Steiner and Liao (two great houses at BT), and Kosmoreich has nothing to with each other, just a bunch of separate projects, “what ifs."

Marc,

I am going for a look that would be incoroprate the spirit of all three, but would be different enough as to stand alone form each. You'll see shortly, I hope...

Ooooh I got an Idea for the flag! It could be a white background, with an eagle. The eagle has a snake in its mouth and has a shield bearing the US colors, but, its feet are holding a maple leaf! Or it could be a flag with the colors of all the countires. Don't mind me, I am just rambling.

You chose a very complex design that included many symbols (altho I'm glad to notice that my homeland of Québec seems to have a prominent place).

If I can make a suggestion, I would recommend that you try to keep it as simple as possible, national flag are usualy meant to be seen from afar and in various condition. A way to do this is to use few colours (usualy no more then 4) and only a few symbol or divisions (such as lines).

To give you an idea, I've uploaded a flag that that had been designed for someone else roleplaying, it was meant to represent a future united north-america (can't remmeber the name right now):

http://www.angelfire.com/freak/foti/varia.html

If you want more inspiration, I would recommend the Flags Of The World site of which I am one of the editor (I take care of the fictional section).

The main page is here:
www.fotw.net

and the fictional flags section:

Marc,

Thanks for the heads-up on FOTW, but I've been going there for years. ;)

We chose this design specifically -- I will explain later. It had to do with the nature of the peoples who created the nation and the way in which it came about. It is supposed to be a "unity through compromise" flag denoting the "equal but unique" nature of nation's demographic.

Once again, I do really like the ideas that you folks are working on and will probably contact you personally about them in the near future.

Take care,
Erskine
