CHRIS: Do you mean to say there is no group to join and get a swell looking uniform like that? I am crushed! Wonder if there would be some interest if he set up a website? Maybe add service ribbons and medals, qualification badges, etc.? Sarge Booker :?: :?: :?:ChrisWI wrote:Its fictive rank insignia, Erskine likes to make up groups (seperatist movements, fictional nations, etc) and make rank insignia for their military forces. As you can see, hes quite a computer artist lol.
ERSKINE: Yes, I liked the artwork very much and wondered what those uniforms would look like in actuality. Scientologists wear nautical uniforms that appear almost fictive with the late L. Ron Hubbard who was their COMMODORE and they have Seamen, Petty Officers, Chief Petty Officers, and Commissioned Officers up to Captain. At first they wore a wreath with a star in the center on their left pocket in various colour combinations and then added slip on rank to their epaulettes. They might actually have had more than the one yacht their Commodore lived on as he could not step ashore for fear of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service grabbing him for tax evasion charges. Those Scientologists wear a white military shirt, black trousers, and black shoes, black necties and a black visored nautical cap with a Midshipman's brass anchor in the front. Glad that you resubmitted the pictures as so often one cannot see the pictures even if they hit the refresh button? If you use ribbons, take a look at VANGUARD INDUSTRIES WEST at school and ROTC ribbons as then you can actually buy them to wear if the organization takes off like STARTREK did, but they cannot make those ribbons as they're too complicated. First, thank you for taking an interest in my work. It represents a fictive government of a Sci-Fi role playing game that a friend asked me to design. There are other insignia for different nations that I have posted to my webspace from time to time in the past (such as the Kuroshinju link). I am going to get more webspace soon, so I will repost my work.
If you would like, I can start working on other aspects of the uniform insignia and other uniform classes, as well.
And for those that remember - I shall also put Lordziba's illustrations up again.
Take care,
Erskine
"GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS!" I too would like to see Erskine Calderon start a website for the IMPERIAL SOUTHERN CROSS DEFENSE FORCE also, maybe if you can tell others, it might happen? Sarge Booker :) :?:guest wrote:Cool looking stuff also I wish there were a ISCDF a group one can join and get promotions and other things?
PAKISTAN is a good place to have bullion embroidery done cheaply, have been dealing with Pakistani emboiderers since 1975 and they're good and cap even make a cap like those for the IMPERIAL SOUTHERN CROSS DEFENSE FORCE if you tell them your head size, they'll do it and its quite inexpensive too! I like the shorter German visor myself. Sarge Booker :) :) :)DvTonder wrote:If you can, I would appreciate it. I will be having the bullion work custom made in the UK (or possibly in Romania) so the more details you can provide the better.
What would be nice as well are things like ribbons, badges, orders, breast stars etc that someone in that rank would be wearing on a full dress outfit. I would like for the outfit to look as authentic as possible.

DAVID: Cat King Embroidery (http://www.catkingembroidery.com) or email at: mailbox@skt.pol.com.pk is one Pakistani embroiderer comes to mind, David! You can send them a picture with a description and ask them how much it will cost and then maybe also get a sample from them to see if it is what you'd want? Sarge Booker :) :) :)DvTonder wrote:I dont have any direct Pakistani contacts. I usually go through Hand and Lock in the UK.
JASE: Cat King Embroiderers and hundreds of other Pakistani embroiderers can make not only embroidered insignia, they can also make visored caps, trousers, and military jackets as well. I started using their services in 1977 when I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina and worked for the makers of Revolutionary War and Civil War uniforms. Sarge Booker :? :D :) :o  :PJase wrote:Cat King Embroidery has some nice stuff it will be cool to see if you can make a I.S.C.D.F. uniform
ERSKINE: I added most of the images to a photo album and sent out 500 invitations of people I know so they'll see the Imperial Southern Cross Defense Force insignia, if anyone asks, will refer them to you about the I.S.C.D.F., Erskine! JASE: Go to http://www.webshots.com and register for a free photo album and title it IMPERIAL SOUTHERN CROSS DEFENSE FORCE and post pictures there as the more who advertise the I.S.C.D.F., the quicker it'll grow and go to http://www.yahoo.com for GROUP and moderate one for I.S.C.D.F. also, that is free too! Sarge Booker :) :) :)Jase wrote:That would be so awesome
CRITIC: In the Army of the United States they issued arm bands that were darl blue wool with chevrons and bars attached to show someone was an Acting-Squad Leader (corporal chevrons) and Acting-Platoon Leader (sergeant chevrons) or Acting-Company Grade Officers (1, 2, or 3 yellow bars) and Acting-Field Grade Officers (1, 2 , and 3 white bars). The Acting-Comany and Acting Officers were used for the Aviation Cadet programmes. Bars do usually outrank chevrons if they are used separtely, however the United States Marine Corps in World War Two wore chevrons with arcs below for most NCO's and was bars below for staff NCO's. Sarge Booker :) :) :)Critic wrote:This is a beautiful uniform/rank design, but I have a couple of critiques. One with the NCO rank system, and the other with the officer nomenclature. Both critiques are stylistic.
1)
The three lowest NCO ranks are red horizontal bars, the fourth is a single white chevron. This indicates that red bars are lower rank than a white chevron.
Why then do the ranks progress thus?
1 bar
2 bar
3 bar
1 chev
1 bar 1 chev
2 chev
2 bar 1 chev
1 bar 2 chev
3 chev
3 bar 1 chev
2 bar 2 chev
1 bar 3 chev
4 chev
Stylistically, this makes no sense to me. A chevron is greater than three bars, if you look at the initial rank order. I propose that the actual rank order should be thus:
1 bar
2 bar
3 bar
1 chev
1 bar 1 chev
2 bar 1 chev
3 bar 1 chev
2 chev
1 bar 2 chev
2 bar 2 chev
3 chev
1 bar 3 chev
4 chev
That ordering seems more logical to me.
2)
Commandant Commander is grammatically redundant. It's like calling someone a General General or a Lieutenant Lieutenant. Colonel Commander, or even Chief Commander (with Chief Commander renamed to 'Lieutenant Commander') would be preferable.
ERSKINE: Those French made shirts must be expensive as they are done so well, but its nice to have more choices in collar styles and over here its hard to find a dress shirt with a size 20 or larger collar size for those of use with thick wrestler/boxer necks. JASE: That is a really good suggestion as it is indeed free to open a photo album at http://www.webshots.com/ and http://www.yahoo.com does have groups and IMPERIAL SOUTHERN CROSS DEFENSE FORCE could be set up there with the person who opens the group can be the group moderator and people could post messages there about fictional ranks and groups like Star Trek and others and after so many postings they could rise in rank accordingly like they do here. Members can also post pictures and it can grow as there are many who like such groups and I.S.C.D.F., good idea, Jase! Sarge Booker :) :) :) (Erskine Calderon is a really good artist and created nice artwork that looks plausible!) :)Jase wrote:Has anyone gone to http://www.webshots.com and to get a FREE photo album and thus promote the Imperial Southern Cross Defense Force or created a group by going to www.yahoo.com
ERSKINE CALDERON: Nila Menegazzo (kelshak_kri@hotmail.com) wrote to me to say what a nice set of ranks the I.S.C.D.F. had and spoke well about the artwork, thought I'd mention this to you! Twnrt-eight (28) people responded to the photo album of Imperial Southern Cross Defense Force at http://www.webshots.com/ so far and not all of the 500 or so people who've received invitations to see it have opened their email yet. JASE made a great suggestion for someone to also go to webshots and get a free photo album to show the insignia of I.S.C.D.F. and also put forward the suggestion of someone going to http://www.yahoo.com/ to GROUPS and start one for I.S.C.D.F. and they could be the moderator and you might work it so rank and promotions is based on how often someone posts messages and they can also add pictures than can be scanned and attached as well!
