Its fictive rank insignia, Erskine likes to make up groups (seperatist movements, fictional nations, etc) and make rank insignia for their military forces. As you can see, hes quite a computer artist lol.

First, thank you for taking an interest in my work. It represents a fictive government of a Sci-Fi role playing game that a friend asked me to design. ERSKINE: Yes, I liked the artwork very much and wondered what those uniforms would look like in actuality. Scientologists wear nautical uniforms that appear almost fictive with the late L. Ron Hubbard who was their COMMODORE and they have Seamen, Petty Officers, Chief Petty Officers, and Commissioned Officers up to Captain. At first they wore a wreath with a star in the center on their left pocket in various colour combinations and then added slip on rank to their epaulettes. They might actually have had more than the one yacht their Commodore lived on as he could not step ashore for fear of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service grabbing him for tax evasion charges. Those Scientologists wear a white military shirt, black trousers, and black shoes, black necties and a black visored nautical cap with a Midshipman's brass anchor in the front. Glad that you resubmitted the pictures as so often one cannot see the pictures even if they hit the refresh button? If you use ribbons, take a look at VANGUARD INDUSTRIES WEST at school and ROTC ribbons as then you can actually buy them to wear if the organization takes off like STARTREK did, but they cannot make those ribbons as they're too complicated. PAKISTAN is a good place to have bullion embroidery done cheaply, have been dealing with Pakistani emboiderers since 1975 and they're good and cap even make a cap like those for the IMPERIAL SOUTHERN CROSS DEFENSE FORCE if you tell them your head size, they'll do it and its quite inexpensive too! I like the shorter German visor myself. Sarge Booker :) :) :)

This is a beautiful uniform/rank design, but I have a couple of critiques. One with the NCO rank system, and the other with the officer nomenclature. Both critiques are stylistic.

The three lowest NCO ranks are red horizontal bars, the fourth is a single white chevron. This indicates that red bars are lower rank than a white chevron.

Why then do the ranks progress thus?

CRITIC: In the Army of the United States they issued arm bands that were darl blue wool with chevrons and bars attached to show someone was an Acting-Squad Leader (corporal chevrons) and Acting-Platoon Leader (sergeant chevrons) or Acting-Company Grade Officers (1, 2, or 3 yellow bars) and Acting-Field Grade Officers (1, 2 , and 3 white bars). The Acting-Comany and Acting Officers were used for the Aviation Cadet programmes. Bars do usually outrank chevrons if they are used separtely, however the United States Marine Corps in World War Two wore chevrons with arcs below for most NCO's and was bars below for staff NCO's. JASE: That is a really good suggestion as it is indeed free to open a photo album at http://www.webshots.com/ and http://www.yahoo.com does have groups and IMPERIAL SOUTHERN CROSS DEFENSE FORCE could be set up there with the person who opens the group can be the group moderator and people could post messages there about fictional ranks and groups like Star Trek and others and after so many postings they could rise in rank accordingly like they do here. Members can also post pictures and it can grow as there are many who like such groups and I.S.C.D.F., good idea, Jase! Twnrt-eight (28) people responded to the photo album of Imperial Southern Cross Defense Force at http://www.webshots.com/ so far and not all of the 500 or so people who've received invitations to see it have opened their email yet. JASE made a great suggestion for someone to also go to webshots and get a free photo album to show the insignia of I.S.C.D.F. and also put forward the suggestion of someone going to http://www.yahoo.com/ to GROUPS and start one for I.S.C.D.F. and they could be the moderator and you might work it so rank and promotions is based on how often someone posts messages and they can also add pictures than can be scanned and attached as well!
