Roman Army

Does anyone know if there have been any discussion sites etc. talking about modern (20th/21st Century) or even futuristic versions of the army of the classical Roman Empire? Especially uniforms, insignia and so on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Greetings
A writer friend of mine is working on a book that has an army derived from the Romans, we were discussing it a week ago. We thought that some form of gladius would be fro legionaries, a wreath and baton for the Centurions, but really got no further. Interesting topic, and interesting to project how it might have evolved.

Sure there were some disscassions, mostly initiated by me, I did like to 6 different plates on Roman heritage. One is modern 20/21 centuries, the other based on future Rome, something called Star Phoenix Protectorate. Anyway, look for info in former FASA games -- TOG (Legions) and Battletech (look at the something called Marian Hegemoni). I did even table of ranks equal to modern ranks, though on NCO levels, some problems. My insignias are traditional, however, based on " I" 's and "eagles" and "pipe stars," only besides pseudo-armor uniforms, only medals were done in old Roman fashion.

I hope this will help, Ziba.

Thanks guys, the info about the armed forces of the Marian Hegemony at http://www.classicbattletech.com/Marians.html is fascinating! Especially all the uniforms and insignia stuff.

Fascinating stuff ziba. I also took the liberty at checking out some other plates. Wow, you have some imagination! Thanks for letting me look.

Fine work as always, Ziba. But don't you think that titles like "legate" and "proconsul" should be reserved for political positions? Perhaps a politico-military unit could be drawn up, like they had in the Soviet Union? Of course, I don't know what you could replace those titles with on the chart...
