V (Visitor)

I just came across this old scifi series I never knew excisted. It's simply called V, which actually stands for Visitor(s).

I've been able to scroll through some screenshots, but I have absolutely no idea what the uniforms mean, or what kind of rank system they use.

All uniforms are a reddish/orangish color that remind me of the color of rust. The basic soldiers seem to wear black armor vests, with either black helmets, gold helmets, or plain black hats/caps. What I think are the officers, have 1 to 5 thin stripes on the uniform and wear no headgear.

But I also noticed that some people have a gold band on their shoulders and collar, the gold band is also tied across their sleeve. But they also have the same thin black stripes on their uniforms. Sometimes they wear the black or gold helmets and sometimes a black cap or no headgera at all.

Can anyone help me out here? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

That made a lot clear, but it doesn't mention the variation with the gold bars on the shoulders, or does it?
