Bandwith - Question about Use of Pictures & Graphics

To the Administrators/Moderators:
Just a quick question about Graphics & pictures. Since this site is paid for & run on a voluntary basis by Pavel & company and since we are posting image files to the forum on a regular basis.

Would you rather have us post “links” to images rather than the “images” themselves? Or does it matter?
This is a question only, I am not trying to suggest a policy

A quick backgrounder for those who would like it
This is really a question about “bandwith” (the transmittal rate) . Pictures of course are significantly larger in size that pure text so I am just curious if the administrators/editors would rather that we post links to images as opposed to the pictures themselves. These days most ISP’s are less rigid about bandwidth limitations and extra charges but of course everything counts against Bandwidth. I am sure we have all owned sites that become really popular and we are charged extra for the bandwidth or visited sites that become temporarily unavailable due to over BW limitations.
Basic rule is this, if it is an image it is generally charged against the hosting sites bandwidth if it is a link to a picture it is not. Every ISP is a different but the basic rules are similar.
I have generally followed this rule . If an image file is small (under 100k jpg or gif files) and I think it is of “significant general interest”, I will post the file as an image otherwise I post the file link. This means generally I post links rather than pictures.
Having said that, rank image pictures, I personally always want to see if possible
Food for thought.
