E1-E9? and Latvian army qestion

What responsibilities has enlisted personel?
E1-E9...There must be an explination to the diffrent codes.

And are there new Latvian army NCO ranks corrsponding with the new navy ranks? :?:

Hi sven:
Quick answer to part of your question
If you are thinking of US enlisted grades: E-1 to E-9 indicates a pay grade with rank and position as follows: (it will also tell you what are NCO/ non NCO grades)

a NATO chart from 92 that compares other counties is here but is not perfect http://rankmaven.tripod.com/NATO-92-RM.htm

Hi sven - If you are thinking the US Army it's different for different types of units but basically:
an E-8 First Sergeant is senior NCO in a company
an E-7 Sergeant First Class would be a Platoon Sergeant
an E-6 Staff Sergeant would lead a Squad
E-5 Sergeant is the starting NCO grade
Corporals, Specialists, PFC's and Privates anre in different stages of training in their Military occupational specialty (MOS)

This thread is on the E-9 senior NCO grades in the US Army http://forum.rankinsignia.info/viewtopic.php?t=1473

Some further background threads are here:
"What rank commands what type of unit - This deals with many different countries -US, UK, Canada, China, Romania, Poland to name a few: http://forum.rankinsignia.info/viewtopic.php?t=954

This site provide by Chuck Anderson http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/comp/org.htm gives background on US command echelon’s and if you search you can find the duties and responsibilities for many grades /billets
