The Walpole Police Department patch depicts the Town Seal, along with the date of incorporation and the department name. Prior to 1914, the seal was nothing more than the incorporation date. Then, a contest was created in 1913, offering a prize of $25.00 for the best new design for a Town Seal. On January 6, 1914, the Town awarded the prize to Miss Edna Buck of High Street, a High School student. The design depicts the Neponset River and the "Old Saw Mill", the first building erected within the limits of what is now the town of Walpole
