the Kepi

are there any resources on the net that deal with the history of the kepi in the French army? Also, at what point did the old-style low-crowned kepi evolve into the present-day cylindrical-shaped kepi?

IIRC, in 1880th, though even before WW I there was fashion to have kepi front slightly lower.

As far as I know, the US Civil War style kepi was still worn by enlisted men in WW1, id say between 1916 and 1939 all ranks switched to the current style.
