Every now and then I will notice a new addition here and there or new graphics, etc. I havent seen Pavel post or respond to my emails in months.
I do agree though that we need some updates.

Hi Everyone!
Chuck Anderson here!!
Wasn't Mark Schendel one of the primary illustrators for the website? Is he active anymore? Maybe this is one of the reasons we've seen no updates recently.
Chuck
yes know one answers my emails either

So I have a few questions.
First, I have been working for several years (on and off as time allows) writing a book detailing the worlds armed forces rank insignia. I would like to use some of the graphics on this site. I would only use a few as I have redone and corrected most on my own.
Secondly, Is there any reason I cannot use them? I don't think there is a copyright on them as they are the ranks of countries which are public knowledge. I am not a laywer so I'm not sure. Don't wanna step on any toes.
I am getting ready to submit to a number of publishers so just figured I'd ask.
Also someone here has worked with Ospery right? I cannot believe they have not already proposed this concept to them. If interested I'd be open to a collaboration.
just pm me and I'll send out my email.
I just want to finally have a single source for all the rank insignia info that I have collected in other numerious book over many many years. And that there is pretty much zero out there for the current insignia of the world. Hell it was this site but as we can see it is unreliable.

Most of the newer Osprey books in the Men at Arms and Elite series (withen the last 2 or 3 years) come with rank insignia charts and most of the earlier ones have written discriptions.
Anyways keep me updated on your book cause I would love to buy a copy when it comes out.

Dear thegoodboy:
I'm not a lawyer, but I believe that there are severe legal limitations using the material published electronically at the [glow=red]World Rank Insignia [/glow]site in a commercial publication.
(1) The graphics are, naturally, the copyrighted property of the publisher and/or the artist.
(2) I also believe, that the actual information published at the site is copyrighted material, even if the original information is in the public domain. The site owners have put a lot of time, effort and money, not only in disseminating this information, but also in gathering and organizing it.
Think of [glow=red]World Rank Insignia [/glow]as a printed book, and you will understand that you cannot just copy the material - neither graphics, nor text. You must, yourself, collect the necessary information from all the different public domain sources available around the world.

I belive he would just need Pavel's permission and then have to put something like "Special thanks to Pavel Maccoch from uniforminsignia.org" or soemthing along those lines.

Dear All
I managed to talk with Pavel few months ago (via Skype). He was in very bad health condition. He said that he would like to pass to me all resources he have and copyrights and access codes to the server. Since then I haven't contacted him, no responses for e-mails etc. ...
I am also sorry to inform you that Mr Mark Schendel is dead :( The widow passed (in written) all rights for his graphics art to Pavel.
Sorry but this is all I can say. I'm trying to rich Pavel on his mobile phone from time to time but got the automatic message that the telephone is switched off or out of the range. Don't know what is going on :(
WOW SHOCKED

WOW!
I am very sorry to here that Mark has died. I had communicated with him years ago but have not tried in awhile. I had no idea. I've have been with this site in different forms since the start and always though he and Pavel did great work. I have also been totally unable to contact Pavel. I knew he was/has been in poor health but I do not know his current condition. I really hope he is well.
Yeah like I said I have no intention of stepping on people's toes. All I would like to do is present all the reams of information I have learned and gathered about the rank insignia of all the world's armed forces into a single source or uniform of volumes.
For the most part I have redone most of the ranks here on my own with MS paint. Granted it is not up to the level that Mark's work was but I have made sure it is all accurate. I also have quite a large and diverse collection of rank insignia from many countries.
So please Zdzislaw please email me, remember my wife is Polish and she can help overcome our language difficulties. In fact she is in Poland now in her town of Slupsk. PM me for my email address and we'll discuss aknowledgement in my book and any other concerns.
Really I am heart heavy after this news.
Ryan

That's very sad and shocking news about Mark's passing and about Pavel being in poor health!
Is there anything that we as Moderators can do to help the website along?
