SOLUTION FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE SITE
Posted: Sun Dec 11, 2005 9:05 pm

TO ALL!
As you might be well aware, our beloved site has two problems:
a. It is maintained by only one person, both financially and IT-wise.
b. Ergo: there are a lot ot annoying pop-ups, pop-unders and advertising messages, which does not do justice to our site, yet which are absolutely necessary if we want to have a site.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Let's see, how many of us can donate regularly a certain amount and how can we dispatch said amount to the Administrator. It is Christmas time, I think we can take such a decision and stick to it for as long as we can.
Zdzislav!
Can you contact Pavel and ask him how much does he need on a monthly basis to maintain the site?
THOUGHTS?

The main problem is .... My last contact with Pavel was FOUR MONTHS AGO
I tried to contact him in many ways, even finding his son in the internet and sending him an e-mail - no success. And only Pavel can access the server :(
Last time we talked he was very ill and wondering about the future. And he said, he'll give me full access to the server and all his insignia resources, together with copyrights ... That was our last conversation ...... (28th of August)

Hi everyone
I dont think it´s gonna be too much to pay per month that is if most of the people registered pay some for it.
for example my page as small as it is does not cost very much this can be in US$ a small amount per month.
So now it is Zdzislaw who have to find out how to get in contact with Pavel
Im in for paying something :D
Ps the only thing for me now is how to transfer the money

Well, I most certainly would like to help with as much (or, due to circumstances, rather as little :( ) as I can, so you can count me in as well. The only question is how? You see, I do not have a credit card (nor I think I will have one in any near future), so unless sending cash is acceptable, what should I do?

Dear,
The only way, as far as I know, to sponsor this site at this moment is the commercial way by banners and so on. This is not very liked by everyone. And personly I think it is the wrong way anyway. But are there any options. Looking at a site is beautyful, but paying for it is something different. The question is how much money is needed a month/year to run the site. Maybe we should give benafactors a name colourcode, so everybody can see that s/he is one?

Transition "Machinery"

Hi Everybody!
Chuck Anderson here!!
If we are to transition (as soon as possible) to new management for our website, shouldn't we think about getting organised and perhaps even assigning tasks and responsibilities to people, so the entire burden won't fall on just one person?
One thing we should remember is that this transition won't do itself. The more of us that get involved and take responsibility the more we can breathe easier about our website surviving.

I agree here 100%. But as Chuck said we need to contact Pavel 1st and get him to transfer the admin rights (on the forum and main website) to Zidslaw.
Is there a whitepages.com type website for the Czech Republic where you could type his name in and get a house phone # or address?

Just found in the internet Pavel's son with telephone number. Sent him SMS - but don't get answer yet (for 20 minutes).
Some time ago I talked with Pavel via SKYPE on his son's account - so that is the proper person ....
I also sent SMS to Pavel (few times) - no answer

Hey, great news indeed, do keep us updated on the development...
Now, you'll have to forgive me for asking, but since I never had a site of my own I have no idea, is hosting the only expense involved with running a site? In other words, will being able to host a site for free solve all of our problems?

by Zdzislaw Rudzki
Yes, this should solve problems with pop-ups, pop-downs etc.
But I am thinking what to do if I didn't manage to contact Pavel. I have a copy of the current website on my PC, but it's just a set of html files + graphics. The original website was made as a php database (clicking any link just isues querry and generates as a resulp appropriate webpage). I am not familiar wit that techolgy at all, so we will need someone good in IT to maintain that. I also have no idea how to transfer the forum to the new location (in case Pavel will not appear).
BTW Do you remember the "test" version of a website with the totaly new apperance which existed for some time about a year ago?

One more expense is involved, namely the yearly payment for the domain name, but that should not be a problem.
Zdzislav.
I'll talk with te people from ines.ro and see what can be done. Either they can just copy the whole site "as is" from this host, remove the ads and put up a "clean" version or they get your files and put them up. I'll know more by the weekend.

Well I hope everything works out OK. If money is needed I'am ready to contribute a small sum. I will be a blessing to be able to lose the popups ect.

As it seems that the new website should be build from the beginning (no possibility of direct transfer of the old one to the new location) I would like to present some suggestions and would like to know your opinions.
First of all I would like it to be a truly cooperative work. I mean there should be a number of contributors who should be able to add their information directly to the website (by means of adding records to the database). I have some detailed ideas how it should work (from user point of view) but I don't have enough IT knowledge to prepare such a database (well, probably I can do it in MS Access format but certainly not in php).
I also think that there should be an "add comment" button of every page (of course accessible for registered (and approved - ?) users).
If it will be really multiuser database (by means of adding materials) some general things should be agreed and defined. I mean graphical files format, convention of file naming (here we should stay with the name schemes started by Pavel to avoid total mess).
Is there any person among you, dear colleagues, who has enough experience (and time) to create such database and then maintain it (I mean the pure IT job).
I will pass here some more detailed proposals soon .....
Looking forward for your opinions

David, you'll probably get status of "editor" so you'll be able to edit the page and correct any errors by yourself - :D
UniformInsignia New Version

Hi Zdzislaw!
Chuck here!!
I'm ready to help 100%! I'm not an IT person by any means, but if I can help in some other capacity please let me know!
In the new version of our website, if we can't directly transfer our past information contributions will we need to "re-contribute" them?
Also, would this be a good time to change the rank insignia used to show our status in the site? In other words, would now be the right time to use the rank insignia of another nation besides the USA, (say Poland, France, the UK or Russia??)
Again Zdzislaw, I'm ready to help in any way I can!! See ya'!

I personally think we should have Lordziba design a custom rank insignia system for that.
As for the new site, as with Chuck im not to good with web design, graphics, etc but let me know how I can help and I will.

Concerning forum rank insignia: I personally do not have a problem with the fact that the american insignia are used (what's more, I even like them), but should they be replaced, I really do think a completely new and original design should be used instead of the existing rank insignia of any country.

I agree with Milos. After all, just imagine my position: I'm Hungarian AND Romanian citizen. Now which insignia should I use? Perhaps both of them? Naw, I don't think so. Let's get some freshly-baked set for all of us:)

Hi
First i have too say " i dont know much about web design "
What i am thinking is that i agree with Milos about the insignia used for the users of this page, if there are gonna be changes on rankinsignia fo users then make something completely new.
If there is something i can do to help making a new site feel free too ask...
