The United Nations' police force in Kosovo, UNMIK CIVPOL, have been in the news recently. A glance through their Web site suggest a well articulated scheme of rank badges. Depending on the era, the badges look like stripes & loops; but a recent video of the UN police commissioner shows him in a British-style uniform.

Does anyone have any knowledge or insight into the UN police rank schemes?

In Kosovo, the public security establishment consist of two branches: the International Police and the Kosovo Police Service. The first is made up from law enforcement officers (police and gendarmerie) drawn from all over the world. They carry their original rank insignia.

The KPS is made up of Kosovo citizens and it's subordinate to the international police, aiming to become the only police service once the UN administration withdraws. Their rank insignia can be found at the following address:

The UN also has some sort of police force that protects the UN Headquarters in New York City, the are armed and can make arrests but rely on the NYPD and US State Dept. Diplomatic Security Service for major investigations. Rank insignia seems to be along the usual US law enforcement rank insignia.

I was going through my collection and came around to the kosovo Police service rankinsignia. I have the insignia for police-officer from the early period. I was wondering why it has the appearance of a Danish police-officr but then in different colors. Does anyone know if the similarity is on purpose and when it is why they have chosen for this insignia?
