He-hey! I am currently watching an interesting, Japanese sci-fi, anime – called Galaxy Railways. Kind of fascinating concept, imagine that humanity (and aliens) colonize a good chunk of their known universe, and a bureau in charge of space travel between those planets based on old railroad rather space/air line system. So, my question is, what would be generic rank for railroad personnel and what kind of rank title would for defense/militia/security forces that protected the railways. Furthermore, was any in real life incidents where the railroad defense played a role in a war?

Thank u ahead, Ziba! smilies-04

You could try something like a paramilitary security organization with ranking such as:

O10-General Director of Railway Security
O9-General Director
O8-Vice General Director
O7-Deputy General Director
O6-Director
O5-Vice Director
O4-Deputy Director
O3-Chief Inspector
O2-Inspector
O1-Deputy Inspector

WO3-Special Agent First Class
WO2-Special Agent Second Class
WO1-Special Agent Third Class

E9-Detective Sergeant of Railway Security
E8-Senior Detective Sergeant
E7-Detective Sergeant
E6-Patrol Sergeant
E5-Staff Sergeant
E4-Railway Sergeant
E3-Railway Corporal
E2-Railway Patrol Trooper First Class
E1-Railway Patrol Trooper

American Civil War had raids on railroad stations and raids to destroy tracks and trains.

ex. the raid of the pro Confederate Missouri Bushwackers on the pro Union Kansas Jayhawks at Centralia, Missouri; this incident was depicted in the 1999 movie "Ride with the Devil"and the 1970s "The Outlaw Josie Wales". Union Cavalry also launched many raids into Confederate territory to rip up tracks and such.
