Service Branches

'Ello, ya'll!

I was wondering if there'd be a comprehensive list of all possible branches/specialisations from various arms of service, e.g. infantry, artillery, signals, etc.
Not meaning just those basic lines, but their more specialized parts:
-Infantry
--rifles
--mortars

etc. etc. etc.

So how'bout we all list the basic service branch lines and corresponding specializations, so we could have a basic "universal" frame of reference for different militaries.

I'll put up my own list after I hear the first "aye!"

Grading System

Do you mean to extend the NATO style grading system worldwide?
A great endeavour indeed, I wish you luck for the monumental task ahead.
When completed it would be very interesting.
Not for the faint hearted.

I believe he is just referring to the branches of service:

ex: Cavalry - Dragoons, Lancers, Hussars, Mounted Rifles, etc
Infantry - Fusiliers, Grenadiers, Rifles, etc

A difficulty would of course be the fact that certain branch specialties (e.g. mechanised infantry/cavalry) would be largely be based on different militaries' doctrine. Bu I think if we all devote a little bit of our thinking power, we could have a comprehensive list for this matter.

So here's my list

-Infantry
--rifles
--grenadiers
--mortars
--AT
--Specialist infantry (arctic/mountain/etc.)
--Sissi (guerilla)

-Mechanised infantry/cavalry
--mechanised rifles
--mechanised crews
--mechanised mortars
--AT

-Armored
--battle tanks
--light tanks

-Logistics
--subsistance
--water
--fuels and lubricants
--clerks
--armorers
--transportation
--maintenance and repair

-Medical
--Combat Medic
--Field nurse
--field surgeon
--NBC specialists

-Clergy
--(religion) chaplain

-Artillery
--field artillery
--rocket/missile artillery
--self-propelled arty
--forward observation

-AAA
--AA guns
--AA missiles
--SPAAG/SPAAM
--RADAR crews and firecontrol

-Engineers
--Combat engineers
--bridging engineers
--EOD
--mine laying and clearance
--construction

-Signals
--basic comms
--SIGINT
--ELINT

-Aviation
--AT craft (helicopters)
--Transport (medium/light)
--Liaison/airlift

-General Staff
--General HQ
--Public/civil affairs
--Historian
--Journalism
--Psychological warfare

and a slew of other arms I need more time to find/remember

couple of addons maybe

At first I thought the intention was to have the various grades also.
Intelligence would be attached to HQ,
Airborne could come under Special Forces which could be classed as specialist Infantry.
How about adding armoured recon, not quite light tanks but light armoured wheeled vehicles.
Heavey and light armoured cars for some nations that don't have tanks.

As I said, the branches can be influenced by military doctrine, but It'd be useful to see a generalized "branch structure."

If you wanna add more, the quote the branch and add the subbranch

eg.

Infantry
-rifles
-mortars

-quote-
Infantry
-rifles
-mortars
-quote-
+recon

And these are for general structures. Doctrine and equipment always influence branches, but the general structure should be the same for all militaries.

So if you think of any branch specialization, add it to the corresponding branch.
