And this was one of my most favorite serials) In the Soviet Union this movie was renamed from "V" into "Dinosaurs People" ("Люди-динозавры").

Interesting. Though I assume they weren't being called by that name since it reflected their true nature within the show, was the name used for the aliens still the equivalent of "the visitors" or was it something else ?

This Russian name indeed just reflected the true nature of invaders, and didn't imply "the visitors" category.
